Gala Cup ’24: IPE Dethrones Mekanikals
by Shaib, M. O.
In what was a pulsating showdown, Industrial Production Engineering successfully dethroned the defending Gala Cup champions Mechanical Engineering. The IPE boys put up a commanding performance in the biggest game of the competition to see Mekanikals off by one goal to nil.
No sooner had the game started that IPE delivered a deflating punch to Mekanikals’ title aspirations. Pius capitalized on a costly error from a defender and fired his half-volley past the goalkeeper! IPE hoped to double the advantage with their immense pressure for the rest of the half, but the opposition weathered the storm.
Mechanical Engineering brought a better foot forward after the restart. They created their best chances earlier on, but Kenneth and the IPE goalie thwarted their chances comfortably with a good save and clutch clearances.
Despite Mekanikals’ last-minute urgency, IPE held on till full-time, as the game finished 1-0. IPE once again triumph in TESA, ending Mechanical Engineering back-to-back trophy triumphs at TESA football competitions, the last time being the Dean’s Cup.
