The stakeholders of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall at the University of Ibadan have rejected the recent proposal by the university management, citing that it does not adequately represent the interests of the students. This decision was made during a meeting held on August 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:40 PM.

The stakeholders, comprising of hall leaders and representatives, unanimously agreed on two key resolutions:

  1. The immediate withdrawal of the resolutions released earlier, signed by the Students’ Union President and General Secretary, within 24 hours. Alternatively, they demand the resignation or impeachment of the Union President.
  2. The SRC members representing Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall are to communicate the hall’s decisions to the SRC leadership, emphasizing that the union’s mandate is to negotiate on behalf of students, not decide for them.

The stakeholders have expressed their discontent with the union leadership’s handling of the negotiations with the university management, stating that the recent proposal contradicts previous congress decisions and protest stances.

This development adds a new layer to the ongoing tensions between the university management, students’ union, and student stakeholders, highlighting the complexities of representing diverse student interests.
