A financial emergency is unfolding in the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, as about 192 faculty students are in a desperate struggle to pay their school fees following the recent tuition hike. With the payment deadline set for this Friday, September 20, 2024, the situation is increasingly dire. Out of the affected students, 119 have applied for the Student Loan, but many remain uncertain if NELFUND will provide the necessary funds in time.

Based on available data of results from the recent poll held by TESA and released by her president Michael Shonibare, there are currently about 64 students self-winding their studies in the Faculty of Technology, who have paid less than 50% of their fees. This is putting their education at risk. The trend is also similar across faculties in the premier university. In response, TESA issued an urgent call to action, seeking financial support for the 73 students that indicated in the polls that they are in need.

In an update released on Tuesday, September 18, 2024, via his private WhatsApp status, the Student Union president Aweda Bolaji informed the general public of his conversation with the CEO and MD of the NELFUND programme. He gave assurance that they (NELFUND) will expedite the loan process for all applicants, including those with pending status.
